Services provided

Dr Sophia Richardson is committed to excellence in all aspects of her patient care. Services provided include:

  • Surgery of the chin, upper or lower jaw, to align the jaws into a better position. This may be for cosmetic reasons or as treatment for some breathing disorders. This treatment will usually involve an orthodontist as well, to make sure the teeth are aligned as well as the jaws.

  • Problematic wisdom teeth may need to be surgically removed. You can decide if you prefer this performed “fully asleep”, under a general anaesthetic or under local anaesthetic at her consulting rooms in Fitzroy North.

  • Some teeth are difficult to remove and are best treated by a specialist. This may be because of the shape of the tooth, or due to medical conditions that mean extra care is needed.

  • An implant can be used to replace one or more missing teeth.

It is made up of two parts - the titanium screw that is placed into the jaw bone, and the tooth (crown) that is then attached to the screw.

Dr Sophia Richardson places the screw into the jaw and makes sure the bone has healed. You can then return to your dentist to place the crown.

  • A tooth may remain unerupted or impacted (does not fully grow into the correct position in the mouth), and need to be exposed to allow it to move into place.

  • Benign lumps and swellings such as small cysts, mucoceles and polyps can be surgically removed. This also includes releasing tongue ties.

  • Exostoses are benign lumps in the jaw bone which may sometimes need to be surgically removed.

  • Some lesions inside the jaw bone require surgical treatment.

  • Grafting may be required to replace damaged bone or soft tissue.

Let’s walk through the steps together

“She is a fantastic surgeon but an even better person, her caring and friendly nature in all interactions, especially directly before my surgery, left me feeling stress-free and cared for. Quite honestly the best care I have ever received from any healthcare professional.”
