About Sophia
Sophia is committed to excellence in all aspects of her craft, and values time with patients to discover the best course for their treatment. She understands that having surgery is not just about the technical aspects of the procedure itself - although this is vitally important - but Sophia believes it is essential to also provide a supportive environment for every patient to make a considered and informed decision. Sophia has cultivated a team who shares this philosophy and together, they strive to help each patient through their unique treatment journey; including guidance on navigating the complicated world of private health insurance, medicare, and self-funded procedures.
To become a Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Sophia obtained her Dental and Medical degrees from The University of Melbourne (2000 and 2006), and was selected for advanced surgical training in the Victorian Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program (2007-2011). Following award of her speciality fellowship, Sophia chose to undertake further subspecialisation in orthognathic 'corrective jaw' surgery at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (2012), and at The Oxford University Hospitals Trust, United Kingdom (2013-2014). Sophia has continued to cultivate her love for learning, and keeps up to date with medical advances with professional development and attending conferences. She has also been the invited speakers for different associations and groups, and enjoys imparting her knowledge to help colleagues optimise their patient care.
On her return to Melbourne, Sophia commenced private practice, and was appointed appointed as an Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant at Monash Health, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and The Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital. In 2020, she opened Queens Parade Specialists, a state-of-the-art facility, in Fitzroy North. Sophia loves to educate and play an active role in teaching and examining Oral and Maxillofacial registrars, Medical, Dental, and Nursing students, as well as general dentists. She practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and has a keen interest in orthognathic surgery and oral surgery including surgical extractions and dental implants.
Sophia thrives on the challenge and stimulation of being a working mother and outside of work, Sophia prioritises family time with her husband and two children. She also loves travel, photography, architecture, and music, and has even completed a Diploma of Music at The University of Melbourne. She is looking forward to participating in voluntary overseas surgical aid programs with her husband, Jeremy Richardson, who is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Sophia is fortunate that she is able to work alongside Jeremy in their purpose built rooms, Queens Parade Specialists, where they strive to provide dedicated and comprehensive facial surgery services together with the rest of their team.
